I have tried various remedies for my skin problems. What else should I do?The simple answer is - to get your diagnosis correct. More often than not, skin problems are often misdiagnosed due to how similar the skin conditions look, and lack of verified information available. When over the counter treatment no longer work, we advise proper evaluation of your skin problems, no matter how minor they are. If you have persistent skin issues, such as pigmentation, mole or growth on your body, it will need to be assessed properly. Dermatologists are trained to diagnose and manage various skin problems including acne and rashes. They can prescribe topical treatments, oral medications, or recommend procedures like chemical peels or laser therapy, depending on the severity of your condition. By visiting a dermatology clinic, you receive a personalised treatment and access to advanced treatments and medications that are not available without a prescription, to ensure a better outcome for your skin problems.

Why should I see a dermatologist? Our skin is the largest organ in our body and certain disorders or diseases manifest in the skin first before any other symptoms. It's important to evaluate your condition as a whole and not just treating what we see on the surface. Your health is often not just skin deep! Dermatologists are trained to treat not only the skin but to evaluate patients holistically especially in the background of complex medical conditions. Dr. Chia’s passion for dermatology ensures that patients receive the personalized attention they deserve and appropriate treatment based on evidence-based practices, recommending only essential procedures for cost-effective care.

Who is a skin specialist? In Malaysia, a skin specialist typically refers to a board-certified dermatologist who has completed advanced training in dermatology e.g Advance Masters in Dermatology. This field is highly specialized, requires at least 10 years of training in Internal Medicine and Dermatology subspecialty, and practitioners are recognized as authorities in managing disorders related to the skin, hair, and nails. Some clinics may employ other healthcare professionals, such as general practitioners with an interest in dermatology or aesthetic treatments, who can address minor skin issues. However, for more complex conditions, it’s advisable to consult a dermatologist with the specific expertise necessary for effective treatment.
